PM Narendra Modi receives the first dose of Covaxin and advises all eligibles to get vaccinated

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the first dose of the coronavirus disease vaccine (Covid-19) on Monday at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, marking the launch of India's second phase of the immunization program. On Twitter, the Prime Minister posted a photo of two healthcare staff injecting him with the Covid-19 vaccine.

At AIIMS, I got my first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine. It's remarkable how rapidly our doctors and scientists worked to improve the global battle against Covid-19. I encourage anyone who is willing to get the vaccine to do so. Let us work together to make India Covid-19-free!” After taking the jab, PM Modi said.

PM Modi arrived at AIIMS about 6:25 a.m., according to sources familiar with the situation, and P Niveda, a Puducherry resident, was one of the healthcare workers who gave him the vaccine.

On Saturday, the Centre had declared that people over the age of 60 and those under the age of 60 would be excluded from the levy.
