Volkswagen in Germany is not concerned about any Apple proposals for a commercial car that could require the battery technology of the iPhone manufacturer, said its chief executive, Herbert Diess.
In December, Reuters announced that Apple could have made adequate strides to develop a vehicle for mass markets by 2024, driven by battery technology cost cuts.
"The car industry is not a typical tech-sector that you could take over at a single stroke," Diess was quoted as saying in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Sonntagszeitung.
"Still, we are not afraid," he said.
Volkswagen plans to develop the software needed for autonomous cars in-house to ensure it can compete against tech firms in the field of electric car data.
