February 14,2019. A black day in the history of India. It was on this day, 40 Indian soldiers were martyred in one of the worst terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir. Around 3:15 pm near Awantipora, a suicide bomber rammed an IED-laden vehicle into the security convoy. The convoy had 78 buses carrying around 2500 army personnel, travelling from Jammu to Srinagar. The fatalities included the death of 40 jawans and hundreds of them severely

injured.

This sheer act of cowardice was met with severe criticism from all over the globe. The Indian army backed by the entire nation, discretely pledged a vow of vengeance. On February 26th 2019, twelve Mirage-2000 jets of the Indian Air Force crossed LoC and dropped bombs into Balakot, Pakistan. India claimed that it destroyed a Jaish-e-Mohammed training camp, killing around 300-350 terrorists. Pakistan contradicted all the claims. The following months experienced significant verbal and military retaliation from both the neighboring countries. It finally came to a halt on March 1,2019 with Pakistan releasing Abhinandan Varthaman, an Indian MIG-21 pilot they captured during a dogfight between Indian and Pakistani jets.

Today marks the 2 year anniversary of the Black day in Indian history. Renowned politicians all around the country including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and Rahul Gandhi paid their homage to our fallen heroes. He who fights by the sword, he also dies by it. Let this day be known for the valentines of our motherland. We pray, let their supreme sacrifice may never be in vain.
