Implementing Microsoft’s hypervisor-based server virtualization product can prove to be advantageous for your business. Flexibility, redundancy, scalability, and reduced cost of operations are just a few of the benefits offered from Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualization. Let’s take a look at each of these a bit closer: ‍ Flexibility Hyper V Server allows you to move virtual guests between physical hosts if needed. Some common reasons to do this are: Free resources for the host The host requires maintenance that needs downtime or reboot The host is being decommissioned for any reason (old hardware, etc…) Moving guests from one host to another requires significantly less downtime than moving an OS from one physical server to another. Redundancy The Failover Clustering feature of Hyper-V allows you to create and manage failover clusters. A failover cluster is a group of computers that provide redundancy as well as increase the availability of applications and services. Using a failover cluster in a Hyper-V environment does all of this without having to use as many physical computers. When one node in the cluster fails the other takes over with minimal interruption for your users. Scalability Scalability is probably one of the biggest reasons to move to a virtualized environment with Hyper-V. You can add or remove servers as needed without having to purchase new hardware or eliminate any old hardware. There are different licensing restrictions for each version of windows server depending on your needs. Here are the licensing details for each Microsoft Windows Server 2008 version. ‍ Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise: Run up to four software instances at a time in virtual operating system environments on a server under a single server license.‍ Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter: Run any number of software instances in physical and virtual operating system environments on a server. ‍Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Enterprise: Run any number of software instances in one physical server and any number of virtual operating system environments on the server. ‍Windows Virtual Desktop Access (Windows VDA): A standard benefit of Software Assurance and a stand-alone subscription-based license which allows roaming access to Windows virtual machines (VMs) from thin clients, third party, and non-Windows-based devices. ‍System Center Server Management Suite Enterprise (SMSE): SMSE offers a comprehensive solution that includes Virtual Machine Manager and covers the managed node under the four main products of System Center. One SMSE license allows you to manage the physical operating system environment and up to four virtual ones on a licensed server. Reduce Costs of Operations Microsoft’s Hyper-V virtualization can greatly reduce cost of operations. By purchasing a few very powerful servers you can virtualize all or most of your entire infrastructure while reducing the cost of hardware and maintenance. With all of your resources consolidated and centralized into a few locations administration becomes much simpler. If you are considering ways to simplify the administration of your IT operations, reduce cost and improve reliability, check out the possibilities of Microsoft’s Hyper-V. As a DaaS offering, Azure Desktop as a Service is highly cost-effective compared to scaling up a traditional virtual desktop environment in your own data center. With the business disruption during COVID-19, companies were trying to find ways to extend their remote work infrastructure while keeping their operating expenses low. Companies already on a Microsoft ecosystem, such as Windows 10 Enterprise or Microsoft 365, had additional incentives to make the shift; I will explain why further down. Another driver for AVD during this time is that it lets organizations control apps and data while allowing their employees to access those resources from their own devices. This is something that a traditional VDI/RDS environment can also provide. However, the cost advantage of AVD, when combined with security and control, creates a winning combination. If IT decision-makers consider the end-user benefit, another reason to choose AVD is the superior experience of Windows 10 and Office 365 that it can provide. The right user experience increases productivity. You don’t want to frustrate your valuable employees with a clunky experience while they work from home. Now, let’s explore what makes AVD a robust offering that could have sustainable growth even after more employees return to the office. The Azure Advantage With AVD, the infrastructure and management components of a traditional on-premises virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) disappear into the cloud—just like a dinosaur-shaped cloud merges back into indescribable formations on the backdrop of the beautiful blue sky on a sunny day. (Read my post on Windows Server/SQL Server end life for more dinosaur metaphors.) Thanks to this merging, Microsoft is taking back critical components of a traditional VDI—such as brokering, load-balancing, compute, storage, and diagnostics—from your plate, which will let your precious IT talent focus on other strategic areas with growth potential. Hosting your desktops on Azure also means you get Azure’s state-of-the-art security features. I believe Azure is considered the most secure public cloud platform, and AVD provides the best DaaS security model for customers. With AVD, users can only access their virtual machines (VMs) by going through the Azure Active Directory authentication system. This means companies can use multifactor authentication and conditional access according to their needs and depending on the employee profile. Also, Azure uses reverse connect technology that lets you run a VM without keeping any inbound ports open. This means that the VMs on AVD are not exposed to the Internet directly. Windows 10 Multisession Unlike the traditional RDI, Azure Virtual Desktop allows multiple sessions on a Windows 10 VM. This means that an organization can have multiple users access the same virtual machine while reducing the cost of maintaining multiple VM licenses. Also, these sessions are isolated from each other, which gives higher security and privacy. To know more about Virtual Desktop Cloud or MS Access visit Apps4Rent.

Office 365 supports a variety of migration methods that customers can use. The choice of migration method can be influenced by a wide range of factors such as the number of objects involved in the migration, the amount of data to be moved to Office 365, the version of Exchange Server (if any) running on-premises, long-term migration or co-existence requirements, whether the organization uses non-Exchange email servers, and even the budget available to spend on the migration project. The migration methods that are available are: Cutover migration Staged migration Hybrid configuration IMAP migration Third party migration tools The best place to start is with the business requirements of the migration project. The business requirements should include factors such as the need to complete the migration by a particular date, whether a back-out option for the migration needs to be included, or whether some email resources will remain on-premises. As you will see when you read through this chapter, each migration method has different benefits and constraints, and they may not all suit the business requirements of the project. The next items to consider are the technical requirements, as they will often quickly eliminate some of the migration methods and allow the organization to zero in on the approaches that are actually possible for them to use. The decision making process begins by asking whether the on-premises environment runs Exchange Server 2003 or 2007. For those environments the next decision point is whether there are more than 2000 mailboxes. Organizations with fewer than 2000 mailboxes are supported for cutover, staged and hybrid migrations, whereas more than 2000 mailboxes are only supported for staged or hybrid migrations. The 2000 mailbox limit doesn’t mean that organizations with less than 2000 mailboxes should automatically choose a cutover migration. For example, if the organization wants to migrate their users in smaller batches instead of one big batch then a cutover migration would not be suitable. When Cutover Migration is either not possible or not desirable for an Exchange Server 2003/2007 organization the remaining options are staged and hybrid migrations. For an Exchange Server 2003 environment a migration to Exchange Server 2010 needs to be completed first. For an Exchange Server 2007 environment at least one Exchange Server 2010 or 2013 server must be installed in the organization to provide the hybrid functionality. Both options require directory synchronization to be implemented. Without directory synchronization, your migration options are limited to third party tools. Government contractors and the federal customers they support are moving in mass to cloud solutions for meeting their growing security and compliance risks. By and large, these organizations are choosing one of the most secure and robust platforms available - Microsoft Government Cloud. Microsoft 365 GCC High is built on Microsoft Azure Government within 8 dedicated government data centers. Azure Government is currently certified to FedRAMP High, and the entire suite of GCC High services is undergoing audits to upgrade its certification to FedRAMP High. For many entities interested in GCC High, the foundation of Azure Government is especially helpful because each Microsoft employee working in those environments is a US Citizen and background checked. This factor is particularly important for companies handling ITAR data. Are there other 'versions' of Microsoft 365? Microsoft has three other environments for Microsoft 365. Here’s a quick explanation of each: Microsoft 365 Commercial This environment is built to FedRAMP Moderate standards and can be configured to meet NIST 800-171. However, this offering will not currently meet paragraphs e) and f) of DFARS 7012. It leverages the Azure Commercial stack and is generally available through all licensing outlets from retail to Enterprise agreements. Microsoft 365 GCC This environment is largely equivalent to the Microsoft 365 Commercial environment, except that its data is segregated from commercial organizations. It can be configured, with appropriate licensing, to be 100% NIST 800-171 compliant. It leverages the Azure Commercial stack and is available from Cloud Solution Providers and through an Enterprise Agreement. Microsoft 365 DoD The DoD environment is built on Azure Government, within dedicated government data centers. The DoD environment is accessible for DoD organizations and cannot be purchased by private organizations. Enterprise Mobility + Security for US Government Microsoft's Enterprise Mobility + Security, or EMS, offerings for US GCC High and DOD customers are built on the Microsoft Azure Government cloud and are designed to interoperate with the Microsoft 365 GCC High and DOD environments. The EMS E5 suite is available for both GCC High and DoD customers, however, Microsoft Cloud App Security and Azure Advanced Threat Protection are available only to GCC High customers. Azure Active Directory P1/P2, Microsoft Intune, Azure Information Protection P1/P2, Microsoft Cloud App Security, and Microsoft Defender for Identity are certified FedRAMP-High. As a cloud-based service, SharePoint Online helps companies leverage public-facing websites, an intranet, and a large number of sites for teams/organization-based solutions on a single platform. Below are the reasons for businesses to consider moving to SharePoint Online: Ultimate Security First things first, Security is the ultimate factor businesses argue about the most when trusting cloud technologies and why shouldn’t you be? Especially when you’re talking about moving sensitive, confidential, and business-critical data. The truth is Microsoft Cloud solutions doesn’t reveal where its data centers are located plus it adds additional multiple layers of physical security and you can rest assured your data wouldn’t be mined for marketing/advertising purposes. They also maintain multiple levels of backup and this is the ultimate data security that you can have. Free from Maintenance Menace Maintenance of data centers & on-premise storage is unquestionably vital but how much of your operational cost is it eating up? Ever gave a thought? By researching & validating hundreds of challenges in cloud migration, the decision-makers often overlook or neglect the forever benefits of migrating to the cloud, Cloud migration experts like us are by any way going to crack those challenges down for you. SharePoint Online helps you bring down the gluttoning operation cost & save you hours together in just 15 minutes of upgrades & backups. Stay Updated, Stay Ahead With Microsoft SharePoint Migration, Companies enjoy the privilege of owning the best & the latest SharePoint features of the platform instantly on their release. The benefit of the online version of SharePoint is it always stands the first to get all the new capabilities & security patches before the On-Premise tool versions. Upgrading/updating on-premise versions need time, resources, and sometimes pausing operations but on the cloud, it doesn’t work that way, Microsoft manages those minor and major upgrades for you without the need for your minimal efforts. Management of External User Access Let’s agree, it’s difficult managing user access outside your domain on-prem. It has also been a great deal of confusion over the lengthy log-in process on the cloud but Microsoft recently has brought in a lot of improvements in SharePoint Online which has made it managing external user access a lot easier. by SharePoint cloud migration businesses can make use of Services Management Portal which are highly leveraging external file/information sharing and with this, it has become easier for enterprises to collaborate with their clients wherein the clients can raise tickets and regularly monitor the project progress. The ‘Hybrid’ Benefits While you’re dearly attached to your On-Prem deployment you can still be able to derive advantages of SharePoint Online because it’s not an ‘either’ and ‘or’ situation with on-prem and the cloud; the hybrid deployment is here to save the day. If you’re still afraid of security breaches and moving to cloud technologies then you can largely benefit from the hybrid model. You can keep the most confidential data on-premise and migrate the rest of the data to SharePoint Online like your everyday collaborations, this will save you from investing in the “rip and replace” method. OneDrive for Business Benefits With Office 365 1 TB of personal storage quota along with your overall SharePoint Online storage, you can save and share millions of files/folders with the highest level of security both internally and externally. The cloud-based document storage platform – OneDrive for Business lets you move beyond the traditional way of risky network shares and especially if you’re an IT Director, you will understand this is the best solution for data sharing. 1. Super-charged communication One of the main benefits of Microsoft Teams is that it fosters incredibly targeted communication among teams. There is almost no wasted time or discussion. The key is that it allows real-time chat among selected team players within topic channels. Microsoft Teams removes the time lag between team members not able to read emails. It keeps only those involved in a certain task involved. 2. Productivity is increased Think of the time lost between email threads. Think of the time lost in trying to schedule meetings amongst remote workers. Task allocation during post-meeting follow ups is notoriously time-consuming. Document collation and version tracking is also problematic. One big benefit of Microsoft Teams is to heighten productivity by keeping the right people at the table in highly-focused collaborations with document retrieval built into the system. 3. Not limited by hardware and software One benefit of Microsoft Teams is that it can be accessed anywhere, anytime, on any device. It eradicates the limitations of hardware or software preferences. It is supported on Windows, Mac, as well as iOS and Android. All you need is an internet connection. 4. Microsoft application integration Microsoft Teams is fully integrated into Microsoft 365 – Office 365 is now called Microsoft 365. The entire Microsoft Office work family is available. This is a major benefit of Microsoft Teams. Applications like Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Yammer, to mention a few, can be accessed. 5. Meeting and scheduling tools So much time is lost in team collaborations while trying to sync calendars. With Microsoft Teams you can have your existing appointments synced with other team members. Once your meeting is set up, you can talk about the meeting in a separate chat thread. You can agree on agendas and upload relevant documents, all within Microsoft Teams. 6. It is a Digital Transformation kickstarter If your organisation is not digitally transformed, you will likely have many different data storage locations. This can cause delays when documents need to be accessed. One of the benefits of Microsoft Teams is that it takes you along a digital transformation journey. As it is a cloud based system, you can access information from anywhere, on any device, at any time. 7. Voice calling in Microsoft Teams Microsoft Teams has beefed up its telephony offering. Up to 250 of your employees can make high quality voice calls at any time, even to external numbers. These ring on a desktop and mobile device simultaneously. This alleviates the need for expensive handsets as you can use a headset or the built-in audio on your desktop, laptop or mobile devices instead. There are more than a billion PCs in the world that are running on Windows Server. Most of the people in the world consider using Windows Server over the other servers. Microsoft is working efficiently to develop various new things for users. We are going to discuss Microsoft Hyper-V. The hardware virtualization product of Microsoft is Hyper-V. It will help you to create and even run any version of the computer. Virtual machines work similarly, and hence, it is also known as the same. Every virtual machine will act as a computer that possesses an OS as well as all the other programs in it. Virtual machines are handy when you want to use computing resources, and it provides you with more flexibility. It is more feasible to use a virtual machine instead of experimenting with your current operating system. Hyper-V provides an isolated space of its own to run a virtual machine. You can run multiple virtual machines at the same time with its help. This will be very useful to avoid the issues of a crash which affects the other workings of yours. Preemo is the perfect place to get all kinds of IT Solutions and IT Services. You can get more knowledge about Microsoft Hyper-V on the official website of Preemo. Features of Hyper-V Hyper V has many features. Let us discuss some of these features in brief. A Computing Environment The virtual machine possesses all the necessary parts which are there in your personal computers such as processor, networking, storage, and memory. Every element has different options and also features which can be configured as per the requirement. All the parts of the virtual machine can be used in whatever manner needed. Backup and Recovery It creates a copy of the virtual machines for Disaster Recovery and stores it in any other physical location so that it becomes possible for you to restore it. There are two options offered by Hyper-V for backup. One method uses the saved states while the second method makes use of VSS (Volume Shadow Copy Service) which can make application-consistent backups for the programs which are supported by VSS. Optimization There are integration services in every supported guest OS. It possesses customized drivers and several functions, which makes it easier to use the OS in the virtual machine. Portability There are features like storage migration, import/export, and live migration, due to which it becomes easy to distribute or move any virtual machine, thus making it portable. Remote Connectivity There is a remote connection tool which is included in the connection of virtual machine in both Linux and Windows. This tool will give you access to the console, which will enable you to see the things which are going on in the guest even before the OS has been booted. This is a unique feature and better than the Remote Desktop. Security The booting process is secure, and the virtual machines are shielded, which protects it against viruses and unauthenticated access to the virtual machine or its data. Network Enhancement and Performance Enhancement. To know more about GPU VPS or Windows Virtual Server visit Apps4Rent.

Copy files manually This method includes moving files manually to the destination using the SharePoint Explorer view service. It is the least practical method to carry out the migration process, as the items/documents lose all the related metadata such as “Created By”, “Created date”, “Modified By” and so on. This method is least recommended for SharePoint consultants as we cannot have all the items/documents created and modified all at the same time and by the same person carrying out the migration process. Thus, the integrity of documents is not persisted, and it doesn’t work in most cases. Use Office 365 Migration API Using migration tools to Migrate SharePoint Site to Office 365 may sometimes limit larger migrations while in some cases the migration may even stop. Microsoft introduced a newer way of migration Office 365 Migration API for developers to solve this issue. The approach improves migration speed considerably by leveraging Azure. Users need to send their content inside a migration package in Azure, where a scheduler/timer job runs to import your data in SharePoint Online. Though migration API works best with simple migrations having a few lists/document libraries while for larger volumes of migration, it takes too much of an effort and is quite complicated to set up. Microsoft FastTrack Microsoft FastTrack facilitates the free migration of data from the source environment to Office 365. It is available for all customers with Office 365 tenants having 500 or more licenses. FastTrack enables file sharing across SharePoint Online. It guides administrators with tools and documentation to perform configuration steps for both Office 365 and the source environment. Please note that ownership history and previous versions won’t be migrated to Office 365. Custom Solutions We can develop a custom utility to migrate content from SharePoint on-premises to Office 365, but the amount of effort, time, and support that goes into it is huge and not a feasible approach. Third-party SharePoint Online migration tools The most used method for SharePoint Online migration(Office 365) is through a third-party migration tool. There are various third-party migration tools available in the market. We can choose a tool based on our requirements and the amount of content or data to migrate. A third-party tool simplifies migration by reducing time and getting everything done with minimal effort that goes into the migration process. Communicating with end-users One of the challenges before moving to Office 365 is making the users aware of the change and the results of the migration. SharePoint consultants need to bring to users’ knowledge the reason for migrating to SharePoint Online(Office 365) and the duration during which the process should be taking place. Make sure users are aware of the below points before starting the migration process Downtime during the migration process Reason for migration and results Possible changes in the environments Changes in URLs Bookmarks Hard-coded references to documents (e.g. Excel macros) Approximate timeline for the migration process Starting the actual migration process The actual migration should not be too complex if you follow the above remedies. It will eventually come down to dealing with detail that pops up that wasn’t considered in the first place. Once again, you need to make sure each and everything is in its place. Workflows Complete or stop running workflows about to be migrated Scenarios for Migration Migrating from SharePoint on-premises to Office 365 Use a third-party tool to granularly migrate SharePoint On-premise to Office 365, considered as most recommended Post-migration steps Before you let users access SharePoint, make sure everything is up and running in your SharePoint Online environment. Test your SharePoint Online environment Ensure that the migration of content is successful Run/test workflows after the migration are done Check user permissions Create a backup of the SharePoint Online environment Remove access to SharePoint server on-premises To learn more about Microsoft Office 365 Migration or to Migrate SharePoint 2013 to 2019 visit O365CloudExperts.

There are four Office 365 migration types for you to consider. 1. Staged Migration An Office 365 staged migration moves everything over in batches. It transitions all of your resource mailboxes and existing users from Exchange 2003 or 2007 to Exchange Online. It’s a great method for medium-sized companies (especially those with over 2,000 mailboxes) that are currently using on-premises Microsoft Exchange 2003 or 2007. It is not, unfortunately, available for organizations using Exchange 2010 or 2013. A staged migration moves mailboxes in batches over a determined period. It requires the use of the Directory Synchronization tool, which replicates your accounts from the on-premises Active Directory database. By the end of the process, all mailboxes will be hosted in Office 365. During the migration, Office 365 users will still have the ability to send and receive emails from users that haven’t migrated over yet. The only resources users won’t be able to access are calendars and delegates. 2. Cutover Migration A Cutover Migration is an immediate transition from an on-premises Exchange system to Office 365. All your resources are migrated at once, including mailboxes, contacts and distribution groups. With this migration, you cannot select specific objects to migrate, and once the move is complete, everyone will have an Office 365 account. This Office 365 migration method is best if you’re currently using Exchange 2003, 2007, 2010 or 2013 and have less than 2,000 mailboxes. In fact, Microsoft recommends the cutover migration for companies with less than 150 users to the amount of time it takes to migrate so many accounts. One thing to note: every user’s Outlook profile will need to be reconfigured to connect to Office 365. 3. Hybrid Migration The Office 365 hybrid migration allows you to integrate Office 365 with your on-premises Exchange servers and your existing directory services. As a result, you can synchronize and manage user accounts for both environments. With a hybrid migration, you’re able to move mailboxes in and out of Exchange Online. You can even pick and choose which mailboxes to keep on-premises and which to migrate to Office 365. Plus, you can synchronize passwords and introduce single sign-on to your team to make it easier to log in to both environments. If you’d like to use a hybrid migration, you need more than 2,000 mailboxes. It’s also necessary to have Exchange 2010 or later. If you don’t, you must install at least one on-premises Exchange 2013 or Exchange 2010 Service Pack 3 (SP3) server to enable hybrid deployment connectivity. 4. IMAP Migration While the other three Office 365 migration types depend solely on Exchange, an IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol) migration allows you to transition users from Gmail or any other email system that supports IMAP migration. An IMAP migration pulls information from your source mailboxes and hands it over to Office 365. However, IMAP migration doesn’t transition anything other than email. Calendar items, tasks and contacts all stay in the original inbox and have to be migrated manually by the user. You’ll also have to create a mailbox for each user before initiating the email migration – something other migration types automatically create for you. IMAP migrations have a limit of 50,000 total mailboxes and 5,000,000 items. And once the migration is complete, any new mail sent to the original mailbox won’t be migrated.
