Is the OnePlus 9R the best OnePlus phone to use, even though it costs more than the OnePlus 9?

In India, the OnePlus 9R costs Rs. 39,999. The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro are the two most recent OnePlus phones. The OnePlus 9R is intended to provide a flagship-like experience at a lower cost than the OnePlus 9. When we look at the features of the OnePlus 9R, we can see that it shares certain similarities with the OnePlus 9. It has a 48-megapixel Sony IMX586 main camera sensor and a Full-HD+ OLED monitor with a 120Hz refresh rate. The OnePlus 9R is also one of the first smartphones to feature Qualcomm's Snapdragon 870 processor. On this episode of Orbital, host Akhil Arora is joined by Gadgets 360 reviews editor Jamshed Avari and in-house OnePlus expert Ali Pardiwala to discuss the OnePlus 9R.

The OnePlus 9R is a one-of-a-kind handset in the OnePlus lineup. It's in the middle of the OnePlus Nord and the OnePlus 9. Around the same time, the handset bears some resemblance to the OnePlus 8T from last year.

In comparison to the OnePlus 9, the OnePlus 9R has a Snapdragon 870 SoC rather than the Snapdragon 888 found elsewhere. This means the CPU cores and graphics output would be marginally lower. Wi-Fi 6E, which is available on the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro, is also not available on the OnePlus 9R. The cheaper OnePlus variant also lacks the Hasselblad branding seen on the luxury OnePlus flagships of 2021.

However, if you don't care about the top-of-the-line chipset or the luxury camera ads, the OnePlus 9R could be a better option.

We discuss the latest OnePlus Watch in the second half of this week's Orbital segment. To talk about the OnePlus Watch, host Akhil is joined by Gadgets 360 reviewer Aditya Shenoy and smartwatch enthusiast Shubham Raheja.

Last month, the much-anticipated OnePlus Watch was released alongside the OnePlus 9 series of tablets. The OnePlus Watch, though, does not run on Google's WearOS, as you would imagine. Instead, it runs on a real-time operating system (RTOS). There are no customization options, but you can instal some exclusive watch faces.

On the OnePlus Watch, OnePlus also included a simple user interface that is similar to WearOS and Samsung's Tizen operating system. A dedicated app store is still missing from the smartwatch. However, some features and watch faces are available directly from the OnePlus Health app.

We also discuss how the OnePlus Watch's proprietary features makes it outperform the competition in terms of battery life. It also has quick charging capabilities and a number of health and fitness-related applications. It's worth noting, though, that if you have an iPhone as your main smartphone, the OnePlus Watch isn't the best option right now. It's due to the fact that the smartwatch doesn't work with IOS.
